Who was Sophie Scholl?
On the 22nd of February 1942, Sophie Scholl (21), her brother Hans (24) and their mutual friend Christoph Probst (24) were convicted of high treason and executed in Munich on the same day. They were members of the Weiße Rose, a loosely organized, short-lived underground organization that had been waging a leaflet campaign against Hitler’s policies and calling for passive resistance against the totalitarian Nazi regime. The Weiße Rose, the personal courage and the moral integrity of its members have become symbols of the resistance against national socialism that arose among students from within Germany.
